Another two dead on deadly stretch of Kings Highway

TWO people have this morning been killed on the same notorious stretch of country highway where two young girls and their father died in a horror smash on Friday afternoon.

Three people were in a car that ran off the Kings Highway around 20km east of Braidwood at about 10.30am today.

Police said the vehicle hit a tree, killing two occupants and seriously injuring a third, who was airlifted from the scene.

The road was closed in both directions while the debris was cleared and crash-scene investigators surveyed the wreckage.

It was the second deadly crash in less than 48 hours on the winding, tree-lined road that runs from Canberra to the NSW South Coast through several state forests.

This morning’s accident follows the death of a 52-year-old Jindabyne man and his two daughters, aged 10 and 8, in a head-on collision on Friday afternoon.

The family’s maroon Ford Falcon wagon crossed onto the wrong side of the road and slammed into an oncoming Mitsubishi Overlander at about 4.30pm, police said.

All three of the Falcon’s occupants died at the scene, while the Mitsubishi driver and his three passengers were taken to Canberra Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The highway was closed for more than two hours and wasn’t completely cleared for traffic until 11pm.
