Campaign for New York Sunday Brunch to be legalised

Already from Monday to Saturday food can be enjoyed outside from 8am.

Daniel R. Garodnick, the East Manhattan councillor who is the bill’s main sponsor, said: “It’s a rule that surprises many people because it is frequently disregarded.

“It’s out of date at this point and deserves to be updated.” Mr Garodnick says he has been contacted by restaurant owners in his constituency who frequently complain about the law.

He also points out that, as it is frequently ignored, it is those who observe the law who are being punished.

He added: “New Yorkers love brunch. It’s part of our culture and we shouldn’t put up unnecessary obstacles to getting those omelettes on a Sunday morning. We introduced this bill to stand up for omelette-loving New Yorkers.” Mr Garodnick is supported by fellow councillors Diana Reyna and Steven Levin. He says that he hopes to bill will be considered by the council in August.

“In the meantime the existing rules hold,” he said. “But we all hope we can get them changed before too long.”
