Coles is facing a $500,000 bill after a man allegedly stole copper piping from a fridge at one of its Sydney supermarkets.

The 28-year-old allegedly broke into the shop at the Broadway shopping centre in Glebe during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police say he stole copper piping from a fridge, causing it to shut down and ruining up to $500,000 worth of goods.

The shop was also forced to close for part of the day.

The alleged thief was arrested after he was spotted climbing off the shopping centre’s roof.

He was charged with break, enter and steal and is due to appear at Balmain Local Court on April 20.
