As Peter Reinhardt’s family were by the Nepean River, almost two days after he went missing, jewellery, cash, firearms and ammunition were stolen from their home, police said.

The break-in between 9pm and 11.30pm yesterday, was discovered when the family returned to their Londonderry home later, police said.

Detective Inspector Grant Healey of Penrith Local Area Command said forensic officers were examining the house.

Mr Reinhardt, 25, has been missing since he was thrown from his aluminium boat near the Yarramundi Bridge about 8pm on Tuesday.

Police and emergency services have been searching but have been challenged by the fast-flowing water conditions and poor visibility, State Emergency Service rescuer Philip Treacy said.

“We couldn’t see below the surface. The fact there’s so many fallen trees in the water, that’s the biggest problem,” Mr Treacy said.

Rescuers were searching the Nepean River between Windsor and Yarramundi today, police said.

Police appealed for anyone with information about the robbery to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
