ONE punter is so sure Prime Minister Julia Gillard will take out tomorrow’s leadership ballot, he’s put $300,000 on it.
Ms Gillard’s winning odds were down to $1.03 tonight, while a win to Kevin Rudd will pay $10.
Online betting site, sportsbet.com.au said one punter who placed $200,000 on Ms Gillard to win on odds of $1.11 at 6pm today, upped his bet to $300,000 10 minutes later on odds of $1.08.
A total of $640,000 has been waged on the leadership battle, with $583,000 of that going Ms Gillard’s way.
“This is comfortably the biggest bet in Australian political history,” Haydn Lane from sportsbet.com.au said in a statement.
“Four times as many individual punters have backed Rudd, but the ones with the biggest wallets all believe Gillard is across the line.”
