Qld winery loses $1m worth of vintage wine

The owners of a winery that lost $1 million of premium stock in a fire say they’ll be producing wine again within two months.

But Leanne Puglisi-Gangemi described as heart breaking the loss of so much vintage wine when a cellar went up in flames.

The fire broke out at Ballandean Estate Wines, near Stanthorpe, early on Friday.

“The two we are lamenting are the generation three shiraz and the world famous sylvaner” she told AAP. “The sylvaner is only produced every four or five years.

“Hopefully we’ll have one in 2012, but we won’t see them released for a few years. It’s pretty upsetting to lose those wines.”

But she said other drops would be back in production in about eight weeks.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
