A Sydney man has been charged after allegedly throwing a knife at a woman in the city’s west early this morning.

Police say they were called to a house on Ivy Street in Toongabbie about 1:00am (AEDT) after a dispute between two families became physical.

The 26-year-old man allegedly threw a large knife at the 25-year-old woman in the home’s front yard.

The knife lodged in the woman’s upper thigh and she was taken to Blacktown Hospital by a family member for surgery on the wound.
