Five critical after Beenleigh crash

SEVEN people — including five juveniles in one car — have been hospitalised, five with critical injuries, following a two-vehicle crash at Beenleigh this morning.

Preliminary information suggests that two cars collided near the intersection of Logan River Road and Harburg Drive shortly before 3.20am, with one of the vehicles crashing into a tree.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the five people who were seriously trapped in the wreckage of one of the vehicles.

The crash involved a four-wheel drive containing two men, aged 42 and 37, who are both in Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

The other vehicle, a utility, contained five juveniles including three teenage boys and two teenage girls.

Two of the boys, aged 16 and 14, are both in a critical condition at Princess Alexandra Hospital. A 16-year-girl is also in a critical condition at Mater Children’s Hospital.

The fourth and fifth juveniles in the ute, a girl aged 16 and and a boy aged 14, are currently in Logan Hospital in a stable condition.

Logan River Road has re-opened at the crash site.

Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing.
