An ‘Occupy DC’ protest organizer has been fired from a program on a prominent state-sponsored radio network for acting as a spokeswoman for the Occupy protesters in Washington.
Lisa Simeone was fired Wednesday evening by National Public Radio (NPR) from the show “SoundPrint,” one of the two public radio programs she hosts, the Associated Press reported.
The firing comes following reports that Simeone violated NPR’s ‘ethics policy’ by acting as a spokeswoman for a group called “October 2011,” that had a role in organizing the ‘occupying Freedom Plaza’ protest rallies against corporatism in Washington, DC.
Other protest organizers say NPR pressured the contracting company that Simeone worked for, to dismiss her.
SoundPrint, an internationally syndicated radio program that Simeone hosted is a documentary series produced by a contractor company but aired by an affiliate of the major taxpayer-subsidized and pro-establishment radio network, NPR.
Simeone had already been accused of violating NPR’s code of ethics for taking part in anti-Wall Street protests.
“I find it puzzling that NPR objects to my exercising my rights as an American citizen, the right to free speech, the right to peaceable assembly on my own time in my own life,” Simeone told reporters.

The peaceful Occupy DC protests are part of the now widespread ‘Occupy’ protests in the US which first started as Occupy Wall Street (OWS) protests in September 17 in New York in opposition to the corporatism that overshadows the US.
The protests have now become global as anti-capitalism protesters worldwide also demand an end to widespread corruption and inequality that accompany capitalism.

Some amount of censorship definitely keeps people from embarrassing themselves in the eyes of the politically correct viewer, although candor would be fairest.
to put a stop to things like this happening more people have to get on the streets to join the protest there is no point in us calling ourselves the 99% if only 1% are out in the streets protesting . we need the whole of the 99% in the streets to defeat the 1% .. everybody needs to support the protest around the world or we will fail .
Protest what?… Socialism?…Capitalism?… Wall Street?… Government?… Fish sticks on Fridays?…. What?…. You people have no idea what casued any of this stuff you’re protesting… I know because I asked….The protestors hate Capitalism, but can’t define the word Capitalism… They hate the Financial Divide between rich and poor, but are not willing to become Entrepreneurs…No, you want to go to school and get a degree and work for someone else….EVeryone knows you will not get rich working for someone else dummy…. EmployERS get rich…. EmployEES are slaves…. That’s the way it works in our current state of currency… Tie wealth to electricity and allow everyone to generate electricity and sell it back into the grid, everyone gets rich…. by running your generator 24/7…. NO shortage of electricity… and you are free to explore other endevors…

After watching all the chickens with their heads cut off running around Wall St. and other venues we came up with this sure fire way to peacefully fight back if the gutless.spineless sheepeople will take 30 minutes out of their day to do this! I know, allot to ask right :-}
Anyway here goes; Anyone who has an account with the following; BANK OF AMERICA,WELLS FARGO,CHASE,CITI BANK,OR ANY OTHER BIG BANK,
Transfer their accounts to a local Credit Union, or local Community Bank in their town. In fact all CREDIT UNIONS and LOCAL COMMUNITY BANKS will handle the transfer for you, and in some cases offer you certain incentives for doing so. You don’t even need to return to your BIG BOY BANK to do this, and it will only take no more than 30 minutes.
People seem to have plenty of time camping out on the street, BUT NOTHING IS BEING ACCOMPLISHED! do something that will effect the BIG BOY BANKS BOTTOM LINE NOW,TODAY!
This idea must get out there. Make it a fun thing to do, have people who transfer their accounts join a list that other people can see, make it the cool thing to do, create a contest for the most people signed up on the “I FOUGHT BACK LIST” ETC.
I think you get the basic idea, but anyway you do it, DO IT! We must start to actually FIGHT BACK with tangible weapons instead of SHEEPEOPLE RUNNING AROUND LIKE ACID HEADS AT A ROCK CONCERT!
Can you imagine this catching on; I can see it now Millions of people transferring their accounts in a matter of weeks! A Glorious sight don’t you think?
So witch one of you FREEDOM FIGHTERS WILL HELP US GET THIS OFF THE GROUND? We need a venue of power that can help sponsor this movement, or Hell you guys can have all the credit if you need it, BUT THIS MUST GET OFF THE GROUND IN INTO REALITY!

I saw versions of street theater, in which participants were not all being molested. I mean, there is noone within baton’s reach. These actors fall to their knees, grasp at the air, force tortured facial expressions, whale, and shriek.
Is NPR helping your cause, not to show this kind of thing?
What in the world did she expect from an institution, like NPR, who is primarily funded by giant corporate foundations? I hear their hypocracy every time I turned them on. I used to think they were really smart people and I could trust their perspective and, ultimately, I could go back to sleep. America was being protected as long as there are intellectuals like them, informing the public.
This was before I began my re-education(the only good thing that came out of 9/11). The more I researched critical iisues, the more I realized NPR was pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes. NPR is one big infomercial. Except softer microphone, padded sound rooms and intimate interviews with specialists who are also paid off by corporatist foundations. Geeez..i’m so wide awake now, sleep doesn’t come easy.
I knew there was a reason I couldn’t listen to npr anymore going way, way back many years.
Conflict of interest. Firing her was the correct thing to do. I am surprised that NPR did it.
By firing her, it shows how scared these devious bastards really are.

NPR translation government propaganda wing of the government and the corporations that control them. What did you expect. I am surprised she has not sued or burned down the house of the individual that fired her.
Journalists should maintain neutrality in order to prevent bias in reporting or creating a conflict of interest that reduces credibility. No media organization seems to uphold that standard these days. They all seem to have a bias and agenda when reporting. I’m glad NPR upholds such high ethical standards. NPR’s rules are very clear so Simeone (unless she is a total dolt) knew what the consequences of her action would be before she started.
BUT this article isn’t clear who her boss was? The contractor company (vague term here– am I supposed to infer the conflict of interest already existed?) or NPR? It’s the former, NPR could have threatened to drop the show because of the ethical infraction or the later as stated above.
I support OWS, but I don’t want people in the media being for or against it. I want them telling the story, delivering the facts. If you want to give the facts to support your point of view, make a movie, write a blog, do an OP-Ed… or get a show on Fox News.

An adult takes the information, understands the bias it comes from, and tries to verify the evidence to draw conclusions. I would believe my cat if it spoke something I could verify.
When was the last time you heard or saw the truth from the Corporate Monopoly Media? I don’t even watch Fox anymore, I’d rather be lied to by someone who says they hate me.
