ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is reported to have narrowly escaped with his life after his convoy was taken out in an airstrike.

Senior ISIS leaders travelling in a military convoy were killed after coming under attack from Iraq’s Air Force. The jihadists were travelling to a meeting in Anbar province attended by top Daesh leaders. Local media reports said the fate of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was not clear, though the Baghdad Information Center has now confirmed he had been injured in the airstrike.

Air strikes were also carried out on the meeting point near the Syrian border.

The Daily Mail reports:

Local residents and several hospital sources told Reuters that the Isis leader was not among the casualties from the convoy air strike.

It is thought Iraqi jets targeted the convoy as it was travelling for a meeting close to the Syrian border in Western Anbar today.
The location of the meeting was also targeted by the Iraqi Air Force, who claimed ‘many of the group’s leaders were killed and wounded’.

The earlier statement had read: ‘Iraqi air forces have bombed the convoy of the terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi while he was heading to Karabla to attend a meeting with Daesh commanders.’
‘The location of the meeting was also bombed and many of the group’s leaders were killed and wounded.

Karabla is located on the Euphrates river barely five kilometres (three miles) from the border with Syria. The statement did not make clear when the strike was carried out.

Iraq’s defence ministry spokesman has reportedly confirmed that it is unclear if the convoy was definitely carrying al-Baghdadi at the time.
