Qld floods insurance bill reaches $111m

Floods in southwest Queensland this summer will cost insurers more than $111 million.

The Insurance Council of Australia says its members have 5657 claims from policyholders in and around Roma, St George, Mitchell and Charleville.

They have reserved $111 million for damage to homes, rural properties, vehicles and businesses that were inundated in late January and early February.

The council’s chief executive Rob Whelan says the figures are an early indication of the widespread damage, and could go higher as more property owners lodge claims.
