FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda The militants stormed a school in the town of Damaturu, the capital of the state of Yobe, on Sunday, killing seven students and two teachers, Reuters reported.
Two militants were also killed, according to the military.
“Two teachers and two insurgents were killed when Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Government Secondary School… Also seven innocent students lost their lives,” Yobe state military spokesman Eli Lazarus said in a statement issued on Monday.
The militants also attacked a military checkpoint in Damaturu and wounded three soldiers, Lazarus said, adding that three militants had been captured in that attack.
The sequence of events was unclear, including whether the shootout occurred around the school or at the checkpoint.
On May 15, the Nigerian army launched an offensive against Boko Haram, a day after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in the three northeastern states of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa.
Boko Haram — whose name means “Western education is forbidden” — says its goal is to overthrow the Nigerian government.
The group has claimed responsibility for a number of deadly gun and bomb attacks in various parts of Nigeria since 2009.
Over the past four years, violence in the north of Africa’s most populous country has claimed the lives of 3,600 people, including killings by the security forces.
