2 more Iran engineers freed in Syria

The two Iranian engineers were freed following efforts by pertinent authorities, and will arrive at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport on Friday morning, read a statement released by Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast announced on May 16 that two Iranian engineers and technicians, who had been abducted in Syria late last year, were released.

Mehmanparast further thanked Turkish officials for their contribution to the process that had resulted in the freedom of the Iranians.

He said Tehran will continue its efforts to secure the release of all Iranian hostages.

The Iranians were captured while building a power plant in the city of Jandar in western Syria.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011.
