A woman was arrested and charged with child abuse after chewing her baby’s face because she was jealous of him, according to police reports in Texas.
Lessielee Ann King, 20, of Houston Texas, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse after the father of her 1-year-old son found bite marks on the baby’s cheek when he returned home from work.
King was charged with “injury to a child under 15 years, by bodily injury,” a third-degree felony and booked into the Harris County Jail.
According to the father of the child, this is not the first time that the young mother perpetrated the abuse. He told police officers that King was jealous with the relationship he had with his child and that he had previously hired observers to watch over his child during his absence.
Afraid to leave the baby with King, the father told investigators he asked his friend to live with them for a few months and monitor King’s interactions with the child. The friend confirmed his suspicions.
The friend said he did not believe that King had a maternal bond with the child because she did not show any affection for him. The friend also said he witnessed King slapping the baby hard on the face, legs and arms, according to detectives in the case.
The child’s grandmother told investigators that she found severe bruising on the baby’s leg. The grandmother said she later learned later King allegedly slapped the baby with a hard-soled sandal, but
never reported the incident. The grandmother told investigators that she felt King was possessed by an evil spirit.
The boy’s father said he believes King has a problem managing her anger and jealousy as the reason for the abuse. He gave investigators an audio recording of King in which she said that he loved only his son and not her.
When detectives asked King about the child’s injuries, she said she only chewed and sucked into the baby’s face and that is not abuse.
King’s bail was set at $5,000.
