Hamilton was granted the award of Member of the Order of Australia on 8 June 2009 for “service to public debate and policy development, particularly in the fields of climate change, sustainability and societal trends”.
Hamilton Speaks to Conservative Politics of Climate Denial:
“The right-wing think-tanks deny climate science but they’re interested in geoengineering, and that reveals something very important about climate science denial – that it’s not about the science.
Attacking the science is collateral damage to defend their ideology – and their ideology is a kind of thinking that likes [aerosol] geoengineering if it means controlling nature and if it means defending the economic and political system; if it means protecting the oil companies from a devaluation of their assets. They [Conservatives] like that kind of solution to climate change rather than carbon taxes, restrictions on what we can consume and destroying eighty percent of the asset value of EXXON.
So you can see why politically, the conservative think-tanks and – in private – why Republican politicians are talking about geoengineering as an answer to climate change.”
