Amazon is reportedly working on two smartphones, including one that will have 3D capability.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon is developing a device that features a 3D screen that can be used without special glasses. Citing “people familiar with the company’s plans”, the Journal wrote that the phone would use retina-tracking technology, which will make the images seem to be floating “like a hologram, and appear three-dimensional at all angles”. What’s more, users might be able to navigate through content using just their eyes.
Reports that Amazon is working on a smartphone — to complement its hardware push with its Kindle e-readers — aren’t new. But what is new are the specifics about the technology used. Amazon is also reportedly working on a television set-top box that could help drive its Amazon Instant Video business.
Amazon declined to comment to the Journal, and a spokeswoman told CNET that the company doesn’t “comment on rumours and speculation”.
The Journal reported that the devices are being developed at Amazon’s Lab126 in Cupertino, California. And while the company’s goal is to release the devices in the “coming months”, they may never see the light of day because of “performance, financial, or other concerns”.
