Rugs are a phenomenal way to visually reflect your style while providing something warm and sturdy under your feet. They are awesome in just about any room of your home and make a nice investment whether big or small. If you have decorative rugs in your house (they don’t have to be antique), how do you care for them? What do you do to help ensure their longevity? One area that often gets overlooked is the use of a rug pad.
Rug pads offer insurance and security for your rugs. Without using one, you may run the risk of replacing your precious decorative earlier than imagined.
{THE BENEFITS OF A RUG PAD}
1. Safety. One of the biggest priorities in your home should be safety and rug pads offer just that. You are going to need extra traction to prevent falls. Rug pads also keep your rugs in place which can lower the risk of sliding and spills (we aren’t talking about liquids).
2. Comfort. Everyone wants something soft under their feet and a rug will simply not do by itself. Rug pads are extra cushion under the feet which is always nice.
Another thing that a rug pad does is provide sound absorption. Now this is not the same as wall-to-wall carpet padding, but can minimize noise.
3. Life enhancer. If you flip your rug over, you may notice it lacks the proper backing that may begin to wear over time. When you think about it, this is only inevitable as we constantly walk on them or place furniture on top that crushes the rug. A rug pad lowers the grinding friction between a rug’s backing and the floor. You can think of it as a layer of protection between the two.
