Activists from Argentina’s Revolutionary Patriotic Movement Quebracho, which fights for the national and social liberation of Argentina, have urged a boycott on all British companies in their country as they burnt the British flag.
The move comes as Argentine’s Foreign Ministry hit out at the British government for its decision to send MPs from the defense select committee to the Malvinas islands describing it as another instance of Britain’s ‘militarization’ of the area.
“The UK has transformed the Malvinas into the cornerstone of a system of military bases thousands of kilometers from London to control the South Atlantic, inter-oceanic routes, and the approaches to Antarctica,” it said in a statement.
Britain’s intimidating acts come as British officials have questioned the country’s military power in case of a full-blown conflict between Argentina and Britain over the archipelago.
“The government needs to review our capacity to respond to concurrent threats. This work should be conducted as a matter of urgency,” said James Arbuthnot, Chairman of the House of Commons Defense Committee.
Furthermore, earlier last month, the former head of the British Army, General Sir Michael Jackson, said Britain would not be able to confront Argentina in the worst-case scenario.
However, as Britain flexes its military muscles ruling out the possibility of negotiations over the islands, the Argentinean activists have called for a boycott on British companies as any threat to British trade with Latin American countries would yield better results.
