Iran’s Auto Importers Association announced that the recent report about “lifting the ban on luxury cars” has been misinterpreted. According to the director of the organization, Maysam Rezaei, the new court ruling only applies to cars that have entered the country before the imposition of the ban on imported cars with engines over 2.5 liters.
Fars News Agency on Wednesday reported that Iran’s Administrative Court of Justice overruled the ban on these cars. Cars with engines bigger than 2.5 liters were completely banned, as they were deemed “luxurious” in the past few years.
Many had filed complaints to the legal entity, saying the engine capacity does not determine whether a car should be classified as luxurious, Fars News Agency reported on September 6. In fact, only two days ago, 137 luxury cars, which had been refused entry into Iran, were ordered to be repatriated because of having engines larger than 2.5 liters, an official at Iran’s Confiscated Assets Organization said.
