It’s not everyday you hear a beaver kills a man, or anyone else for that matter. This happened in eastern Europe at Lake Shestakov in Belarus when a man tried taking the animal’s picture, Inquisitr reports April 11. The beaver began biting the man’s thigh and managed to hit a main artery with its razor-sharp teeth.
Two others, who were with the man at the time he was attacked, tried to stop the bleeding, but their attempts weren’t able to save him.
It’s unknown what may have caused the beaver to bit the fisherman to death. These animals are typically nonviolent and aren’t known to launch an attack on humans. Perhaps the animal felt threatened, cornered, sick, or was protective over young inside a nearby den. In this case there’s speculation that the beaver was likely rabid. He probably showed no aggressive signs to the fisherman until it was too late.
Even the most gentle of wild animals can be unpredictable. People may get too close and unexpectedly find themselves in the middle of a potentially deadly attack. This is often heard about in zoos, but to hear about an animal like a beaver being so aggressive is extremely rare.
Respecting wild animals and their territory is paramount for humans to remember in an effort to avoid serious injuries or death.
