HALLE Berry’s shock pregnancy was the “biggest surprise” of her life.
The 46-year-old actress confirmed she is expecting her second child after rumours surfaced that she was three months pregnant.
Halle has now spoken about becoming a mother again, and described how she is coping so far.
“I feel fantastic,” she said in an interview with CNN. “This has been the biggest surprise of my life to tell you the truth.”
Despite speculation suggesting that Berry was expecting a boy, the Oscar-winning star has insisted she doesn’t yet know the sex of the baby. This will be her first child with her fiance, French actor Olivier Martinez.
The couple sparked baby rumours after Olivier appeared to be fiercely protective of Halle around paparazzi when they walked through a Los Angeles airport last week.
“I thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it’s been a big surprise and the most wonderful,” she beamed.
Berry already has a five-year-old daughter, Nahla, with her ex-partner Gabriel Aubry. The pair was previously locked in a bitter custody battle. She was eager to move to France with Olivier and Nahla, with Gabriel going to court to oppose the decision.
They have since resolved their issues and reached an amicable custody settlement, after Halle agreed to remain in California.
Halle and Olivier got engaged in March 2012 after dating for two years.
The actress has been busy of late, after joining forces with designer Michael Kors and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to help fight global hunger.
She says the plight of starving children means more to her now than ever.
“Especially now, being a pregnant woman and already having a child… it’s so important what happens to the baby while they’re in utero, and the first 1,000 days is fundamental,” she explained.
Halle showed off her compact baby bump as she launched the World Hunger Stop campaign with Michael at the Four Seasons in New York City on Saturday evening.
