Tonight, the contestants and the three teens got to get coiffed and coutured by Ken Paves and Tim Gunn. And they got to reveal their shiny, new selves to family and friends on a two-week sabbatical from the ranch. And while they got to go home for their reveals, nobody got sent home permanently.
Let’s start off with a Quote of the Week, from Jeff, who was eager for a hair makeover: “Look at this! There’s a Chia Pet on my face!”
Not for long, Jeff!
First, it was fashion time. Sunny and Lindsay had a blast picking out outfits with Tim Gunn, but Biingo was a little reluctant. But hey, he’s a 13-year-old boy – fashion’s not their thing.
Jackson had fun with color and Gina wowed Tim in a leather skirt. But let’s talk hair.
Ken Paves took some length off of Lindsay’s and Sunny’s hair, and Biingo apparently had some highlights going on!
And just like that, it was time for the reveals.
No real shockers, just lots of great haircuts and great, everyday outfits. (Remember the “prom” from a few seasons ago?)
Back in the day, loads of time was spent on the makeover process. Loads of clothing changes, haircut montages and fashion shows. But not this season.
With only 40 or so minutes devoted to the makeovers, what would the rest of the show focus on? All the adult contestants got a note from the ranch saying that if they lost 5 percent of their weight in their two weeks at home, they’d gain immunity.
And how best to test that? Send everyone to their favorite hometown restaurants. Visions of nachos, potato skins and pizza danced in their heads. But they stayed strong. Gina and her family were at a Mexican restaurant and a cheese-covered monstrosity appeared at her chair. But she sent it back for a much cleaner salad.
Poor Jeff was at a restaurant with his buddies who were chowing down on a bounty of appetizers swimming in sauces. But there’s no ranch at the ranch and Jeff ordered a salad doused in red wine vinegar.
Danni was happy to be back in her apartment and to encourage and inspire her dad who has heart disease and obesity. But he’s making changes and is inspired by his daughter’s success.
The contestants were then charged with challenging their hometowns to exercise. Everyone led workouts at gyms, ballfields and rec centers, and school gyms. Plus, we got to catch up with Olivia Ward and Marci Crozier from “Biggest Loser” season 11, and Antone Davis from season 12, and they are maintaining beautifully.
With 24 hours left to the weigh-in, all the contestants ramped up their workouts so that they could reach that 5 percent.
Quote of the Week No. 2, from Gina: “I want America to know that they can do it at home.”
After tearful goodbyes, it was time for the contestants to head back to the ranch for the weigh-in.
Weigh-in: Hey, hi there, Bob, Jillian, Dolvett and Alison! We haven’t seen them all week. They were there to see how the contestants did at home. So how’d they do after two weeks at home?
- Danni: 10
- Jackson: 15
- Joe: 17
- Jeff: 19
- Gina: 10
Immunity for all! No one is going home this week. Gina is still the overall biggest loser on the ranch, but Danni and Joe are catching up.
Next week: Lots of weigh-in drama. Two contestants will be assured of a place in the finale and one player will fall below the red line, being eliminated. But that leaves two contestants. What will be their fate? Viewers will choose the third finalist. And while they got to go home for their reveals, nobody got sent home permanently.
