Seventh Generation, one of our favorites for green cleaning — not greenwashing — has heeded the call of many a concerned parent with the launch of their new line of plant-based baby care products. The collection includes six items: Baby Shampoo Wash, Foaming Baby Shampoo Wash, Baby Lotion, Baby Bubble Bath, Baby Sunscreen and Diaper Cream. And all proudly boast the USDA Certified Biobased Product label, the first line of baby care products to hold such a distinction.
The label is part of the BioPreferred program which was created by the Farm Bill 2002 and expanded by the Farm Bill 2008. Biobased products are defined as goods composed in whole or in significant part of renewable biological ingredients — agricultural, forestry, or marine materials — rather than petroleum. Yay for Baby.

All of the products are formulated without parabens, phthalates or synthetic fragrances. But the one perhaps most sure to please parents is the Baby Sunscreen. The choice between effective chemical-laden sunscreens or a sunburnt baby is a decision known to trouble many amongst the green stroller set. This baby-safe, broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB) sunscreen solves the dilemma with its water-resistant SPF 30 formula that features non-absorbing mineral sun filters that stay on the skin’s surface, and naturally, contains no chemical sunscreens, parabens, gluten or PABA.
The products ($7.99 – $8.99) are available now at seventhgeneration.com and will be in retail stores starting July 2012.
