‘Boko Haram attacks Nigeria market’

Suspected Boko Haram Takfiris dressed as traders have opened fire at a market in a northeast Nigeria border town, a military officer and a local official said.

“The terrorists disguised as traders and opened fire on unsuspecting traders at a market in Damasak” in Borno State near the border with Niger, a senior officer with direct knowledge of the raid said on Monday.

He added that the death toll is not immediately clear.

Mohammed Damasak, a local official, also stated that the militants had concealed their weapons in some containers.

“They pretended to be traders but sadly inflicted horror. Many traders escaped with bullet wounds while many are lying dead at the market,” he added.

This comes as Boko Haram Takfiri terrorists, who are active in northern Nigeria, carried out a similar raid on Thursday that killed 48 people in the nearby town of Doron Baga.

“Scores of Boko Haram fighters blocked a route linking Nigeria with Chad near the fishing village of Doron Baga on the shores of Lake Chad on Thursday and killed a group of 48 fish traders‎ on their way to Chad to buy fish,” Abubakar Gamandi, head of Nigeria’s fish traders association, said.

Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is forbidden,” has claimed responsibility for a number of deadly shooting and bombing attacks in various parts of Nigeria, which have left more than 10,000 people dead so far.

On April 14, the Takfiri group kidnapped 276 students from their secondary school in the northeastern town of Chibok in Borno, triggering worldwide outrage. Reports say 57 of the girls managed to escape, but 219 are still missing.
