The vehicle struck the buried explosive device late Saturday.
The police group was returning to its station after inspecting a bomb that had been found in a residential neighborhood nearby.
A spokesman for the provincial government said the dead officers had detained three suspects, who were also among the victims.
The explosion was one of several deadly bombings across Afghanistan on Saturday.
Ten policemen were killed in a bomb attack in the northern province of Kunduz on the same day.
Meanwhile, one police officer and a civilian lost their lives when a remote-controlled bomb planted on a bicycle exploded in the eastern city of Ghazni.
Afghan officials in the western province of Farah said two police officers were killed on Saturday evening when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb.
Militant groups use improvised explosive devices, including roadside bombs, against Afghan forces, foreign troops and civilians.
In the first six months of 2012, over 1,140 Afghan civilians were killed and around 2,000 were wounded, mostly by roadside bombs, according to statistics released by the United Nations. Thirty percent of the casualties were women and children.
