Local police officials told Press TV that the attack took place in the provincial capital of Kunduz, located 250 kilometers (155 miles) north of the country’s capital Kabul, late on Thursday.
They added that two policemen also lost their lives in the blast. Five other civilians sustained injuries in the act of terror.
The attack comes as senior Afghan officials escaped unharmed on Thursday after a roadside bomb went off and struck their vehicle in the northeastern province of Kapisa.
Qais Qaderi, the governor’s spokesman, said the explosion took place on the outskirts of the provincial capital Mahmud-i-Raqi, located some 800 kilometers (497 miles) northeast of the country’s capital Kabul, at around 8:30 a.m. (0400 GMT).
He added that deputy governor Aziz Rahman Tawab, member of Meshrano Jirga Mahiuddin Munsef, and agriculture director Seyyed Muskeen were the targets of the blast.
Insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of thousands of US-led forces in the Asian country.
