‘British leaders mired in negativity’

The leaders of Britain’s Liberal Democrat and Labour parties are to hit out at calls for a referendum on the independence of Scotland underlining the importance of Scotland’s union with England.

Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband will launch their attack during their respective party conferences referring to the economic woes faced by the British society as the main reason for the United Kingdom to remain united.

The British officials’ attack on Scotland’s independence comes as the Welsh First Minister’s call for constitutional changes in the UK strongly sound like a call for Welsh independence.

“We can’t expect the constitutional arrangements of the 19th century to last until the 21st. I think what we need is a bit of clarity in terms of who does what, in terms of how powers are transferred from Westminster to their devolved regions. This is the sort of work that should really be done by a commission of people looking at it in some detail,” said Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones in an interview with The Huffington Post UK.

“Scotland is not that much bigger than Wales. It’s five million, we’re three million,” Jones added.

The United Kingdom faces serious threats to its unity at home while it stubbornly refuses to engage in negotiations over the sovereignty of overseas lands waiting to become decolonized including Las Malvinas and Gibraltar.
