Major roads across the CBD will start being blocked to traffic on Friday night as the city prepares for Sydney Festival’s opening night.
From 9pm (AEDT) Phillip Street will be closed southbound between Bridge Street and Hunter Street, Elizabeth Street will be closed southbound between Hunter Street and King Street, and Macquarie Street will be closed in both directions between Hunter Street and St James Road.
St James Road will also be closed in both directions from 11pm.
The NSW Department of Transport said College Street was already closed in both directions between Prince Albert Road and William Street.
Even the cycleway cannot be accessed by cyclists.
The closures will be followed by further road shutdowns from 4pm on Saturday.
Motorists are being reminded to look out for special event clearways around the CBD, which will be in effect until 1am (AEDT) on Sunday.
