At least ten civilians have been killed and several others severely injured in a powerful car bomb explosion in Syria’s Homs.
The casualties come after an explosive-laden car went off in the central city of Homs on Sunday.
The blast took place in a taxi stand in the city’s Zahra district. The area is mostly populated with Alawite and Christian communities.
Homs Governor Talal Barazzi has said that tens of others are injured, several of them critically.
Nobody has claimed the responsibility for the blast, but the Syria state media have pinned the blame on terrorist elements.
This comes as Syrian troops are going ahead with their operations to push out the foreign-backed militants from residential areas across the country.
Cities and towns across Syria have frequently come under bomb attacks as well as mortar and rocket fire by the foreign-backed groups since the crisis erupted in the country.
In early April, President Bashar al-Assad said Syrian people have no choice but to triumph over the militants and extremist theoreticians in the Arab country, adding that such triumph can only be achieved through “firmly sticking to diversity, moderation and intellectual enlightenment characteristic of the Syrian society.”
The country has been the scene of a deadly crisis since March 2011. The Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey — are said to be supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
