The demonstrators held rallies in several provinces, including the western province of Nimrooz, eastern Laghman Province and Sar-e Pol in northern Afghanistan.
At least three protesters were killed and two more injured in Logar province south of Kabul on Saturday following violent clashes between angry demonstrators and Afghan security forces.
Protests and clashes left at least 18 demonstrators injured in the town of Mehtar Lam in Laghman province, as outraged protesters tried to storm the governor’s office.
At least 30 people, including two US soldiers, have been killed, and around 180 others injured since the protests erupted on Tuesday.
The violence was triggered by the burning of copies of the Holy Qur’an and other Islamic texts at the US-run Bagram Airbase, 11 kilometers (7 miles) southeast of the city of Charikar in Afghanistan’s Parwan Province.
The desecration at the NATO base has inflamed anti-American sentiments in Afghanistan and other Muslim countries over the past days.
The protesters are calling for the prosecution of those involved in the sacrilege of Islam’s holy book.
