Unsinkable is called the definitive memoir by film legend and Hollywood icon Debbie Reynolds, according to her publisher HarperCollins (William Morrow). The book is due out this week, Tuesday, April 2 (the day after her 81st birthday).
The actress, comedienne, singer, and dancer shares the ups and downs of her life as an actress during Hollywood’s Golden Age. There is something for everyone, including anecdotes about her lifelong friendship with Elizabeth Taylor and her experiences as the foremost collector of Hollywood memorabilia. The memoir also covers intimate details of her marriages and family life with her children, Carrie and Todd Fisher.
The renowned actress wrote an autobiography in 1988, Debbie: My Life. Her new memoir may take a slightly darker view of the heydays. No matter what, Debbie Reynolds comes across straight-forward and willing to reveal more in the 320 pages. It also includes unpublished photos from her personal albums.
Known as “America’s Sweetheart” the nation did rally to Reynolds’ side when her then husband Eddie Fisher left her in 1959 for Reynolds’ friend Elizabeth Taylor. The MGM star is known for such films as Singin’ in the Rain, Tammy and the Bachelor and The Unsinkable Molly Brown for which she received an Academy Award Nomination. She also is gained fans as a Las Vegas performer.
Her publisher notes that between the pages of Unsinkable, “(There) are stories that never reached the tabloids about numerous celebrities, such as Ava Gardner, Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra, Mick Jagger, Gene Kelly, and many more.”
Reynolds continues to perform her one-woman show around the world and writes a syndicated advice column.
She was born in Texas and currently lives in Beverly Hills, Calif., and Las Vegas.
