The Australian dollar is tracking lower after an unexpected rise in the unemployment rate to 5.6 per cent in March.
The dollar fell about a third of a cent against the greenback – it was fetching 105.12 US cents by 1:45pm (AEST).
The Australian share market has, however, been holding in positive territory thanks to strong offshore leads.
The All Ordinaries Index was up 37 points to 5,011, and the ASX 200 Index was 0.8 per cent higher at 5,008.
Financial stocks have been performing well, with the big four banks all in positive territory.
Westpac was up most strongly, with a rise of 1.7 per cent.
After a solid session yesterday, mining stocks have been underperforming today.
BHP was down 0.4 per cent, while rival Rio Tinto had lost 0.2 per cent.
