Drug pollution cause of anxiety – Fish getting ‘High’ on human waste

SMH –  A cocktail of man-made industrial chemicals, mind-altering medications, synthetic hormones and contaminants in our waterways is adversely affecting the fecundity, function and evolutionary behaviour of our fish. According to researchers at Sweden’s Umea University, anxiety-moderating drugs from the Oxazepam family – commonly sold here as Serepax – are being excreted in patients’ urine, eluding wastewater treatment and entering waterways.
