Tonight, (September 14) the planet Neptune will be at opposition. This is a yearly event where Earth passes directly between Neptune and our Sun. Neptune is an ice giant a planet of monster storms. At around the same time Neptune passes opposition, it also makes its closest approach to the Earth. It is brighter than any other time of the year and is visible throughout the night. When it is near opposition, Neptune reaches its highest point in the sky around midnight. This is the best time of the year to grab your telescope or high-powered binoculars to view this planet.
