Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini and the Deputy Culture Minister for Cinematic Affairs Javad Shamaqdari, attended the ceremony held on Sunday evening, February 10.
The ceremony hosted the winners of national sections including ‘Looking for Simorgh (Iranian cinema)’, ‘Cinema Vérité’ and competition section of the festival.
This year’s Best Film Award went to Ali Ghaffari’s feature-length movie Refund while Parviz Shahbazi’s Darband received the Best Director Award.
Hamid Farrokhnejad picked up the Best Actor Award for his role in Refundand the Best Actress Award was presented to Hanieh Tavassoli for her role in The Corridor directed by Behrouz Shoeibi.
Behnam Behzadi also garnered the Best Screenplay Award for the movie Rule of Accident and Hamed Sabet was awarded with the Best Movie Soundtrack Prize for his work in Berlin-7.
Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the annual event is comprised of two competitive sections as well as two non-competitive categories.
The 2013 Fajr film festival was held in different sections including ‘International section’, ‘Looking for Simorgh’ (Iranian cinema), ‘New Vision’ (the first films competition) and ‘Cinema Vérité’ (documentary competition).
“The 31st Fajr Film Festival was much better than its previous editions both in terms of quality and quantity of the participated films,” Hosseini said.
The 31st Fajr International Film Festival took place from January 31 through February 10, 2013.
Iran holds the international Fajr film, theater, music, visual arts and poetry festivals every year to commemorate the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
