A 14-year-old boy has been charged over the rape of a woman on a popular Hobart walking path.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faces charges of aggravated assault, rape, aggravated sexual assault and indecent assault over the incident on January 30.
Tasmania Police launched an extensive manhunt after a 23-year-old woman reported how she was forced off the walking path at knifepoint in broad daylight in the suburb of Cornelian Bay.
“This has been a very difficult time for the young woman, and her courage to report the crime has helped police make an arrest,” acting detective inspector Craig Joel said in a statement.
The boy was arrested and charged on Thursday.
Police say bail will be opposed on the grounds of the seriousness of the alleged attack.
The 14-year-old will appear in court at a date to be determined.
