The clash occurred on Wednesday after dozens of angry protesters blocked the Alexandre III bridge over the Seine river.
The farmers were demanding the resignation of French Agricultural Minister Stephane Le Foll for defending the plan, which they say would damage the country’s agricultural industry.
The planned subsidy removal is in line with the European Union’s broad agricultural reforms to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) that is hoped to provide more funds to environmental schemes.
On June 26, EU negotiators agreed in Luxembourg on far-reaching reforms to CAP, fixing the rules governing 50 billion euros ($65.37 billion) in annual farm subsidies for 2014-2020.
The reforms, however, received a chilly welcome in Europe, where critics have raised questions over the lack of transparency in using the extra environmental money.
