Gas pipeline exploded in SW Pakistan

The incident occurred late on Monday when an 8-inch diameter natural gas pipeline was detonated with an explosive device in Pir Koh area, officials said on Tuesday.

The pipeline connects several major wells to a major gas purification plant, in Balochistan’s southwestern Dera Bugti district.

There were no reports of mortalities from the blast, which disrupted gas supply to the plant from the affected pipeline.

No group has yet claimed responsibility of the attack, which is widely blamed on Baloch separatists.

The group has been involved in decades of struggle for an ethnic homeland in impoverished but mineral-rich Balochistan, which also supplies much of Pakistan’s natural gas.
