German rally raps Bahrain crackdown

The protesters — most of them Bahrainis, Arabs and Turks — called for the ouster of the dictatorial Al Khalifa regime and the complete withdrawal of all Saudi and other foreign troops from Bahrain.

The demonstrators chanted anti-US slogans and demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners in Bahraini jails.

The Tuesday rally in Berlin was held to mark the first anniversary of the popular revolution in Bahrain.

On the same day, anti-government protesters poured onto the streets in Bahrain to renew their calls for the ouster of the ruling regime. Saudi-backed regime forces fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the protesters.

More than 30 people, including rights activist Nabeel Rajab and six American activists, were arrested during the demonstrations.

The main opposition al-Wefaq party says regime forces also attacked villages, hitting many houses by tear gas canisters.

Scores of people have been killed and hundreds of others have been arrested in Manama’s brutal crackdown on protesters since February 2011.
