Greeks head to general polls on Sunday

There is no clear winner from the vote and a coalition government is expected to be formed, according to opinion polls.

The main parties — New Democracy and PASOK — garnered around 38 percent of the vote, which is enough for a parliamentary majority.

The last opinion polls showed the two parties lost support since the last election in 2009.

Low-profile campaigns were held for fear of physical attacks on the streets as the country battered by business closures and hundreds of thousands of job losses.

Greece is the epicenter of the eurozone debt crisis as the austerity crisis is gripping the country. One in five workers is unemployed and banks are in a shaky position and pensions and salaries have been slashed by up to 40 percent.

The outgoing coalition government has adopted painful spending cuts to secure emergency bailout funding from the International Monetary Fund and the European Union.
