On Thursday, Police Superintendent Irfan Baloch said that the attackers opened fired at the policemen when they were sitting at a restaurant in the city.
The senior Pakistani police officer added that one of the attackers was killed in the incident.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Pakistani police officials often blame pro-Taliban militants or criminal gangs for such assaults.
Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Pakistan entered an alliance with the United States in the so-called war on terror.
