It was in October of 2012 that a team of doctors at the Markham Stouffville Hospital in Markham, Ontario, Canada explained to me that my body was starting to deteriorate. Thirteen years of severe substance abuse accompanied by the spending of hundreds of thousands of dollars — earned both legally and illegally — and I thought to myself, “Is this how it’s all going to end?”
Over the two week span prior to that diagnosis I had made five appearances in the ER. Twice I thought I was having a heart attack, twice for shortness of breath, and once for a family of unsightly boils growing under my left armpit.
The detrimental diagnosis was the result of a discovery that I had second stage kidney failure, causing my liver to begin shutting down. Externally this portrayed itself through skin rashes and boils growing in my lymph nodes, including several in very sensitive areas of my body. My body had finally had enough, a conclusion that only made sense given the number of times I subjected it to cocaine, meth, ecstasy, MDMA, ketamine, opiates, liquor, and a horrific diet.
I agreed to see a social worker and psychiatrist to try to uncover the root cause of my substance abuse. The sessions were going well until they suggested that I begin taking prescription drugs to help deal with the “disorders” I seem to have developed. The doctor wrote me the prescription for a drug I couldn’t even pronounce, but was similar to the widely known antidepressant prozac in terms of its primary function.
After 8 to 9 weeks of clean sobriety, I decided to reward myself, ringing in the new year by indulging in a number of my old habits. It was 4AM on January 1st, 2013, and as I sat drinking from a bottle of whiskey an incredible force of betrayal and anger shot through me.
For the first time in a very long time, I could actually hear a voice deep within me, a voice of clarity. I decided right then that from this day forward I would cease all drug use — no matter how difficult it got — and do my absolute best to honour my body.
Re-Building My Health
My journey towards health first led me to a free Meetup group, which gathered with the intention of connecting to higher vibrations through guided meditation.
Upon arriving at the gathering I was greeted by a woman named Ange, whose heartfelt introduction caused me to break down in tears and openly sob in front of a room full of strangers.
Through the event and a subsequent phone call the next morning, Ange sent me on a path to detox and revitalize my body. Some of what she suggested included:
- Cleansing my pineal gland (FIND OUT MORE)
- Writing down positive affirmations and repeating them daily
- Not consuming meat products
- Increasing my daily intake of fresh organic fruits and vegetables
These changes immediately started to impact my well-being, and it was a week later that I bumped into a longtime friend, who it turns out also recently battled depression. After being on prescribed medication for quite some time, he mentioned that he was finally able to break free from them thanks to one healthy miracle product.
He went into his car and handed me a 100 oz. frozen box of wheatgrass juice proclaiming that it completely changed his life. He insisted I take it from him and simply said that if I decided to not try it out to simply call him and he would come pick it up.
Upon waking up the next morning, I went to the freezer, put 4 cubes in a glass with some distilled water. Once it melted, I took a second to prep myself for the consumption of this off-putting liquid and slammed it back in one shot.
It certainly didn’t taste amazing — especially not the first time — but it was consumable and within 30 minutes I was already feeling the results. I felt as if I was buzzing, even while doing mundane tasks such as checking my e-mail. I realized that this stuff was actually giving me a natural high because of how toxic my body was.
After 3 months of regular wheatgrass juice consumption partnered with other small changes in my diet and lifestyle (10-15 minute daily jog, meditation, cleaner eating, etc.) I was a completely new Justin. My skin began to clear, I was no longer tired throughout the day, and my cravings for substances I was once heavily addicted to had completely subsided.
I cannot guarantee that wheatgrass juice will have the same effect on you, but I certainly think it is more than worth trying out. To find out more or to order your own organic wheatgrass juice, click HERE.
I continue to use wheatgrass every day and am incredibly happy to do so. Thank you Dean Boukaras and thank you wheatgrass gods!
