Indian Premier Manmohan Singh arrived in Beijing from Russia late on Tuesday for a three-day official visit.
Singh is to meet with Prime Minister Li Keqiang and the Chinese president on Wednesday. Talks are expected to focus on several key issues, including the Border Defence Cooperation Agreement.
The border cooperation accord is aimed to prevent any confrontations between both sides’ armies.
In April, a three-week long face-off occurred between Chinese soldiers and Indian troops after the latter set up a campsite near an Indian military base in Ladakh mountainous region in a disputed part of Indian-administered Kashmir.
On the sidelines of his official visit, the Indian prime minister will address business leaders attending the second India-China CEOs’ meeting.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for Chinese foreign ministry Hua Chunying lauded Singh’s visit, saying, “It is of great importance to deepen China-India strategic partnership.”
Singh’s landmark high-level visit follows Chinese prime minister’s visit to India in May.
The Indian Premier, ahead of his arrival, said that he had tried hard to bring bilateral relations on a “stable growth path” for the past nine years.
On October 20, Singh had travelled to Moscow to partake in the 14th annual Russia-India summit.
