Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has attached value to Lebanon’s resistance against the Israeli regime during a meeting with Lebanese prime minister designate Tammam Salam.
“The legacy of the Lebanese people’s resistance has been [realized] under the auspices of unity among Lebanon’s all groups and clans and hence whatever effort towards creation of unity and convergence in Lebanon on the part of the country’s political, religious leaders is considered valuable,” Zarif said, IRNA reported.
The Iranian foreign minister further valued the Lebanese people’s resistance during Israel’s 33-Day War of 2006 on the country.
“No country will benefit from the growth of extremist thoughts and inclination towards violence, and damage [caused by] this sort of viewpoint will affect all the regional countries and even its supporters,” he noted.
Zarif also appreciated the recent developments towards creation of a Lebanese government and voiced the Islamic Republic’s readiness for any kind of assistance towards its formation.
Salam, who served in the government as minister of culture from 2008 to 2009, was tasked with forming a new government on April 6. He has set January 20 as the most likely date for the birth of the new cabinet.
The Lebanese official valued the democratic experience in the Islamic Republic.
Currently on a tour of the region, Iran’s foreign minister is now in the Iraqi capital to discuss regional issues, including fight against terrorism with top Iraqi officials.
