Iran negotiating team arrives in Turkey

The four-member Iranian negotiating team, headed by Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili, arrived in Istanbul Friday morning.

Iran and the P5+1 — Russia, China, Britain, France, the US and Germany – are scheduled to resume a fresh round of multifaceted talks in Istanbul on Saturday. The sides will exchange views on a host of issues, particularly Iran’s nuclear energy program.

The West accuses Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy activities and has used the pretext to impose unilateral and international sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Iran has strongly refuted the allegations, arguing that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it is entitled to the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

Earlier on Thursday, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reiterated Tehran’s resolve to retain its fundamental rights even under the harshest pressures.
