‘Iraq, Syria crude funds ISIL terror’

A political commentator says Takfiri terrorists attack the oil fields in Syria and Iraq to raise the necessary fund for their terrorist activities in the two Arab countries, Press TV reports.

In an interview with Press TV on Wednesday, Matar Matar highlighted the numerous instances of infighting between the ISIL terrorists and other Takfiri groups in Syria’s eastern city of Deir Ezzor, where the country’s main gas and oil fields are located.

“These oil fields are becoming the main sources for funds for their activities and … their missions,” said the analyst.

Matar further pointed to the takeover of Iraq’s northern city of Mosul by the ISIL Takfiri militants last month and said the terrorists sell the Iraqi crude oil to neighboring Turkey in cheap prices as “they need funds and they need arms.”

The seizure of Mosul enabled the ISIL Takfiri terrorists to gain control of the path of the Kirkuk/Ceyhan oil pipeline, which is the country’s biggest, as well as the Baiji oil refinery.

Earlier this month, reports said ISIL Takfiris, who have taken control of large swathes of Iraq since July 10, sell the country’s crude oil to businessmen in Iraq’s Kurdistan region for as little as USD 25 a barrel.

The British Daily Telegraph also reported on July 11 that the Takfiris raise as much as USD 1 million a day from the sale of crude oil recovered from the oil plains south of the city of Mosul and smuggled to countries like Turkey.

The newspaper added that middlemen based in Kurdistan turn a handsome profit on the supplies by selling it overseas for refining into more valuable petroleum and diesel products.
