Israeli navy opens fire at Gaza fishermen

Israeli occupation naval forces opened fire on Wednesday at Palestinian fishermen off the northern Gaza coast, witnesses said.

The Palestinian fishermen were forced to head back to shore “in fear for their lives” after Israeli forces opened fire at them, an eyewitness said.

Meanwhile, the eyewitness and the Palestinian ministry of health noted that no one was reported injured in the incident.

Gazan fishermen, whose numbers are estimated to be around 4,000, have suffered from a more than a decade-long siege of the Gaza Strip.

The siege limits their sailing for only six nautical miles in the sea. This violates the Oslo agreement reached between Israel and the PLO in 1993.

Early this year, the Israeli occupation navy shot dead a Palestinian fisherman and has so far wounded 18 others while fishing within the limit of six nautical miles.
