Jurors in lacrosse trial watch police interview

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — A former University of Virginia lacrosse player on trial for killing his ex-girlfriend told police he wrestled with and shoved her but did not punch or strangle her.

Jurors in George Huguely V‘s first-degree murder trial viewed a police interrogation video on Friday. It was recorded hours after Yeardley Love‘s body was found in her apartment in May 2010. She was found bloodied and beaten.

Both Huguely and Love are from Maryland.

Huguely told police he had gone to talk to Love about their on-again, off-again relationship and the encounter turned physical. But he insisted he did not inflict the lethal injuries.

Told by detectives during the police interview that Love was dead, an incredulous Huguely repeatedly said, “She’s not dead.”

Huguely and at least two jurors sobbed while the tape was played.
