Advertisements for Michael Hoffman’s book Usury in Christendom: The Mortal Sin that Was and Now is Not are banned from the pages of The American Conservative magazine, a publication affiliated with Patick J. Buchanan. Advertising director Ronald Burr informed Independent History and Research on May 15 that The American Conservative will not accept an ad for the book. No reason was given. Hoffman is banned from speaking about Usury in Christendom at the “ISOC” Catholic Social Teaching conference entitled “Catholic Restoration Conference: Rebuilding Christendom,” to be held in Washington D.C. Sept. 13 – 15. Hoffman received a letter, postmarked April 30, from Judith Sharpe, one of the conference organizers, concerning this. No reason was given. The organizer did say they would be willing to sell Hoffman’s book at a table at the conference. Giving a speech on usury in place of Hoffman will be Catholic Hedge Fund manager Anthony Santelli. Another invited lecturer at the ISOC Catholic Social Teaching conference will be John McManus, President of the John Birch Society, which has banned ads for our book Judaism’s Strange Gods from its “New American” website.
Barring a miracle of God, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to expand our readership and support base when blacklisted by organizations like the preceding, which purport to be daring alternatives to the corruption and gate-keeper censorship function of the neocon-dominated media. When even the “alternative” Catholic and paleo-conservative organizations ban us, we are confined to the outer reaches of obscurity and marginality, imperiling the very existence of our Truth Mission.
