Liu Xiaobo’s brother-in-law goes on trial

“Liu Hui pleaded not guilty,” Mr Mo said. “If he is found
guilty, the prosecution recommended a sentence of 12 to 14 years.”

A police blockade surrounded the court and one notable supporter of the Liu
family, the activist Hu Jia, said he had been confined to his house 48 hours
before the trial so that he could not attend.

On her way out of the court, Mrs Liu lowered her car window to talk briefly
with reporters.

“I’m not free. When they tell you I’m free, tell them I’m not,” she
said.

When asked the meaning of her statement, Mr Mo said: “It is as she said:
She is not free.” He added: “We are still waiting for a date for
the judgement.”
